Facade lighting

The existing parking garage was dilapidated, in a state of disrepair and in poor technical condition, and it was therefore decided to completely renovate it. The aim of the project was to improve the quality of the building both aesthetically and functionally, as well as to make a positive contribution to the cityscape and the experience of Haugesund city center.

The design of the facade was intended to give the building identity and legibility, and emphasis was placed on local connection, longevity and materials with low maintenance costs. The concept was based on the building’s large volume and inactive function, and introduced a more vibrant and scale-reducing facade inspired by the movements of the sea and the city’s history.

The main feature is an undulating aluminum facade that marks entrances and gives the building a distinct character, combined with a rear curtain wall in natural material. The facade is active – both visually and culturally – and can be illuminated to create moods and mark occasions throughout the year, such as New Year’s Eve, Pride, the Pink Ribbon campaign or red, white and blue on May 17. In this way, the parking garage becomes a new and vibrant element in the city center, and a building that can convey joy, community and commitment.

To give full control over the lighting design, Arkitecht was chosen as the solution. This makes it possible for the owner to plan and activate different light settings and moods throughout the year, adapted to both holidays and special events.
